PUNQ 2021

Pop Up North Queensland

Pop Up North Queensland (PUNQ) is Umbrella Studio Contemporary Arts’ premiere festival of visual and performance art by North Queensland and Australian artists and arts organisations.  PUNQ 2021 features a new site-specific artwork commissions program that will engage audiences with ‘place’ in new and innovative ways. We are very pleased to announce 3 of our 11 commissioned creators: ALISON MCDONALD, JILL CHISM and DANCENORTH.

From sugar-cane fields to island beaches, come on the journey to ‘disrupt your perception’ in North Queensland. This year the festival expands across the region, from its roots on Wulgurukaba and Bindal Country (Townsville) to include Yunbenun (Magnetic Island), Gudjal Country (Charters Towers) and Warrgamaygan Country (Hinchinbrook).

Explore exhibitions, site-specific installations, performances and workshops in galleries, pop-up art spaces and the distinctive North Queensland landscape.

PUNQ respectfully acknowledges the Wulgurukaba, Bindal, Nywaigi, Gugu Badhun, Gudjal, and Warrgamaygan People as the traditional owners and custodians of the lands on which we gather, share and celebrate local creative practice. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and future, and acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders as the first people of Australia. They have never ceded sovereignty and remain strong in their enduring connection to land and culture.
